Alfresco

www.alfresco.com

We know the importance of collaboration tools in the corporate place and one company has been able to put together a package with document and content management capabilities. This is an open source software but I believe that once a company can past the hosting and installation hurdles this will be a major development for content designers. For the practical part, just point your browser to the url and view the list of early adopters.

Technology and the Royal family

I found this link on how the Royal family in the UK has been using technology:

Go to www.royal.gov.uk

At the bottom of the page on the right
you will see
media information:
press releases
speeches and articles and from there you
look for the images and broadcasts links.

A digital village

An african village joins the global communication network

You may not be aware of the Entasopia community center in Kenya but technology has been able to put this sleepy rural area on the digital map and this is how it was done:

with a VSAT- ( very small aperture terminal)

a satellite dish

a solar panel

routers,  servers

computers and

the purchase of bandwidth at the rate of €700 a month from a provider.
The partners in this initiative are O3b, an internet start and Inveneo, a not for profit group working on getting africa connnected to the global communication netwok.
