The prize the epic quest for oil, money and power by Daniel Vergin, is an excellent industry publication, essential for a professional understanding of the petroleum industry. Armed with this background opinion, it was important to note that the petroleum industry is powered by technologies like:

-giant powerpoint projections for seismic surveys

-dual screen work stations

-collaborative tools

-imaging software and

-computer servers

when it comes to all the phases of oil prospecting, drilling and marketing. In fact the original source of this information was an by the IHT captioned “The return of the wildcatter.”

Technology and information sharing

It was not possible for ordinary professionals to put up a digital library before the advent of the internet. Today creating a digital library is simply with the aid of a web-based interface  and through the use of any of the following software:

www.koha.org

www.greenstone.org

www.joomla.com

www.drupla.com

www.plone.org

An inspiring example is the history project at

Technology and local government

The basic philosophy of local vovernment is carried to a new level with the introduction of a single telephone number(311) for all public enquiries in the municipal area of denver, in the United States.

The essence of this service, is that it takes out the frustration of searching 2 000 pages of the local telephone directory from municipal service users. This to the local government IT team, is simply the creation of a call center,  to field the calls, a solid computer network, the installation of Oracle people, customer relationship management program. And putting in place laptops, radios, cubicles and conference rooms to handle all these enquiries that is core of local government relations.
