Ten years ago the creation of a digital library was something relegated to specialists and top flight IT people. But today the situation have changed considerably that online repositories can be created by anyone with fast internet connection and basic internet experience with one of these digital library technologies:

www.plone.org

www.drupal.org

www.greenstone.org

Technology and sports

Technology and sport events

Much has been said about how technology will take over most of the little things we do at home and for the moment, technology is part of managing sport infrastructure and events. For instance, with the use of StratFix(a web service) ticket agents can monitor in real time the seating arrangement in a stadium, many days before the events just with the aid of a web browser. Events can be filmed for training, stored,  retailed and used as a decision making tool during any event.

The international institute for communication and development

Technology is now in the corporate place, part of government policy making process but not within the reach of all, either in the western world or in underdeveloped countries. And that challenge to bring technology to the rural areas of the world is one of the tasks been tackled by www.iicd.org, a dutch-based not for profit body. The work of iicd is mainly in the form of teaching people how to use technology in eight countries, at the moment and there are plans to extend this project to other parts of the world.
